Behind The Lines Medical Trust exists for one reason: to deliver high-quality, affordable ERISA health plan coverage to the emergency responder community — the people who run toward the emergency the rest of us run from.
BTLMT is a Taft-Hartley multiemployer welfare trust — a jointly-governed structure created under federal labor law to pool the resources of multiple employers and unions in order to provide health and welfare benefits to working people and their families.
The trust exists exclusively for the benefit of its members. There are no shareholders. There is no profit motive. Every dollar contributed and every decision made is directed toward providing the strongest possible ERISA health plan coverage to the responders BTLMT serves.
Membership in BTLMT is limited to organized and represented labor members and career emergency responder professions — law enforcement, fire service, corrections, detention, EMS, and other clinical staff embedded with response operations. This narrow eligibility is by design. It allows the trust to build plans, negotiate with carriers, and price coverage around the specific realities of the responder profession. Our trust currently provides ERISA plans and already represents active and at-work on-duty emergency responder personnel as members.

Our national launch
BTLMT is entering a national launch phase, actively engaging labor unions and responder associations in every state. Our objective is simple: give responder organizations a purpose-built, credentialed ERISA health plan option they can confidently offer their retirees and active duty personnel.
